The Journey of Healing

Starting a journey in healing requires a healthy amount of bravery. There may be many unknown hurdles to overcome but the courageous one, who is ready to surrender to the process will find true alchemy that effects all aspects of life.

Whenever there is illness or disease, the body is sending a message that something is out of balance. The individual is not living in harmony with their true self or nature. The imbalance may be dietary or emotional, it can be from trauma or childhood conditioning. The reasons for imbalance are countless and so personal. The beauty of ancient healing techniques and Traditional Chinese Medicine is that you are examined as a whole individual and treatment is based on what is discovered from you. There is no separation of your emotions or body parts, in fact you will start to see the connection between several different symptoms you may be having. They often come from the same cause.

Acupuncture does not add anything to your system, it simply shifts what is there. blockages are released, areas of excess are released and the energy flows to areas of deficiency.

Just like nature, the body has energy flow and many parts can be grouped together to fit certain characteristics.

As an example, the Spleen produces the body’s daily energy from the food we eat and is closely related to sugar metabolism (the pancreas is considered part of the Spleen system in TCM). The Spleen also controls the muscles and keeps the blood in the blood vessels. It is responsible for holding the organs in place,  for good digestion and for our sense of taste. It also has a role in having a strong immune system.  When someone has a weakness or imbalance in this system , they may experience gas, bloating,  easy bruising or excessive bleeding, high or low blood sugar, sore, achy or flaccid muscles, weight gain, fatigue, organ prolapse, allergies, loss of taste, heavy feeling body, excessive worry or obsessive thinking, plus many other possibilities. So you can see how connected everything is. When the causative factor  (the Spleen in this example) is brought back into balance, all of the related symptoms disappear.

There is a saying in Chinese Medicine that really attracted me when I started my journey. “The path that leads to disease can always be followed to return to health.” Over the years, I have discovered that this is only the beginning, as there are many paths and I prefer to aim for a new path that brings you to a place where there is even more health, vitality and understanding than you started with.

All the best on your path to healing.
